Clinical Pastoral Education [CPE] was introduced to The Bahamas in 2006 by Rev. Fr. Sebastian Campbell, a Certified Chaplain with the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy [CPSP] headquarted in New York, USA. For the time being The Bahamas is the only country in the Caribbean region to have successfully begun this type of educational training for the ministry and todate persons from Jamaica and Haiti have been trained along with a number of Bahamians. Our course of study includes the following:
Understanding Clinical Pastoral Education [CPE]
1:- Clinical: CPE takes place in the context of real-life pastoral situations. [Todate the hospitals have been the main context, but to a lesser extent and appropriately so training takes place in nursing homes, prisons, schools and in other specialized areas especially in parish life].
2:- Pastoral: CPE enhances the trainees professional and personal skills in the care of the whole person [it enhances pastoral skills].
3:-Education: CPE helps the trainee in his life long journey of learning, reflection and growth. [The trainee establishes a contract for learning which becomes the goal for achievement].
Who Can Benefit from CPE
1:-Matured Lay Persons seriously seeking a ministry in Pastoral Care, Ordinands preparing for Seminary Training, Theological Students, Priests and, Pastors seeking to enhance pastoral skills, untrained chaplains of institutions.
2:-Institutions and Congregations through the enhanced contributions of the above.
